Archer Boy Replaces Hell Boy

With Hellickson going on the DL, The Rays called up Chris Archer. The right hander was one of the centerpieces of the Garza to the Cubs deal a couple of winters ago. To date Archer has been average at best in Triple A. His 4-8 record doesn’t tell the whole story. What he has though is swing and miss stuff. His 90 Ks in only 76 innings is what major league scouts are raving about. What makes them cry is the 45 BB.
In the lower Minor Leagues he was dominating. In 2010, still with the Cubs organization, he put together a great year between a couple of stops. He was 15-3 with a 2.34 ERA in 28 starts. He had 149 Ks in just over 140 innings.  In addition, back in the 2010 Pan Am Games Archer was the winning pitcher against a tough Cuban team.
Not sure how many starts Archer will get or how long Hellickson will be out. I did pick him up in one league where I needed Ks. I know he is going against Strasburg on Wednesday and am looking forward to seeing the kid pitch. I am only recommending Archer in deep leagues and if you need Ks. He should get 2 starts next week so keep that in mind too.
