Canadian Ribs

Brandon Morrow who had been Toronto’s best pitcher all season is looking at a DL stint after straining an oblique muscle after only 9 pitches last night. The oblique is the new term for a rib cage muscle that was referred too just a few years ago. It is the left side of his body that is vital to twisting and turning. The torque used during a wind up and delivery affects the oblique the most. For a pitcher it may take a month to recover. Manager John Farrell stated, “The injury is probably substantial”. If you saw the replay it was clear Morrow was in severe pain.
So how does this affect Fantasy owners? It hurts if you owned him. Toronto has recalled Aaron Laffey from Triple A where the 10 year minor leaguer had a 3-5 record with a 4.52 ERA. Not even worth a look guys. Start looking over the waiver wire for a replacement. Oswalt 34% owned, Diamond 34% owned, or Burnett at 45% owned.
I look for Toronto to make a quick play for a starter in the next 7 days especially if it looks like Morrow will be out at least a month. I would guess that Dempster or Wandy will get moved up to Canada by July 1st. An outside possibility would be Anibal Sanchez. Remember you read it here first. A move by either SP would increase their value slightly but they move from the lowly NL Central to the toughest division for a SP.
