First I have to say I’m
glad to be back from vacation. My teams took a small hit while I was gone as I
was limited to internet access on a lake in Northern Michigan. Anyway back to
baseball and the latest move happening in Atlanta.
Now that Juan Francisco
has been cut loose Chris Johnson is the everyday third baseman in Atlanta. After Johnson’s red hot start when Freeman was
down, he has been able to keep the average up and still provide a great SLG%. What you get with Johnson is streakiness that cannot
be denied. Twice this season he’s had 6 game stretches where he has hit over
.500; then comes the 1 for 17 stints. Last year after being traded away from
Houston, Johnson hit .345 for Arizona with 5HR in his first 8 games. He then
was well under .200 for the next 19 games.
While only being owned
in 29% of leagues he is a great pick up for any CI slot. By this time next week
he will be owned in well over 60% of leagues so if you have room for a player
with dual eligibility that will now get everyday ABs in very good offensive
line-up Johnson is your man.
Do not expect him to
continue with a .346 BA the rest of the year but he could finish near .290 and
from this point on get you 12 HR and 50 RBI. If you already own him this could
be a great time to sell high, especially in H2H leagues…talk with any manager
that owns Moustakas, Aramis, or Lawrie at the moment.
