Outside of Beltre and
Ramirez, who are over 30, 3B can state it has some of the best young players at
any position in baseball. 3B is good position to build your Dynasty League
around. Of course Miggy is in a class by
himself and will outshine any other third baseman again this year and should be
a top 3 overall pick. Picks 2, 3 and 4 I feel can be interchangeable. The
rankings and explanations after the break.

Longo, Beltre, and
Ramirez all have pros and cons as a top tier 3B. Longo is great when he is
healthy but has only completed 2 of his 5 MLB seasons. Beltre’s line-up is in a
state of flux after losing Hamilton, Napoli, and Young so will Beltre be asked
to set the table or drive in Runs. Then Ramirez who can put up a 30/100 when he
is healthy seems to have freak injury every other year. What I like about Ramirez over the other two is his
ADP is 30+ picks after the others and he is in a contract year. Contract year
players have a huge incentive to produce.
The next group, from
Wright to Headley, all hasve20HR and 80RBI potential. Wright could put up
bigger numbers this year but the Mets will be horrific and Wright will lose ABs
and get pitched around. Han Ram should go 20/20 but will be drafted as a SS
earlier in drafts. Sandoval gives you
the high BA , Lawrie could go 20/20 but may hit in the 2 hole and lose some RBI
opportunities. Then Zimmerman who I have never been high on is also injury
prone.
The bottom half of 3B
all have good qualities and will bring great value from their draft position. It’s
a situation where you may target specific counting categories. You may choose
HR and RBI over BA with Alvarez and Freese or take R and BA while sacrificing
power like the multi-positional Young and Prado. Youkilis and Machado probably
have the largest upside as to current ADP but they are a big risk/reward pick.
